The colonial project that denied societies their humanity still plays out in who is considered ‘human’ in policing and security institutions. Drawing from the oppressive systems of slavery and colonialism that surveilled, weaponsied the use of force against the lives of the oppressed, detained and killed through slave patrols and colonial constabulary, there has been a historical pattern to demonstrate that the lives of the oppressed are disposable.
