It has long been recognised that women make significant contributions to peace in their societies and in a world riddled with conflict. Women play multiple roles in peace processes as survivors, perpetrators, victims, combatants, peacekeepers, activists, mediators, negotiators and advocates, among others. However, peace processes are gendered and hierarchised, in that peacekeeping operations are militarised and masculinised.
