The Centre for Mediation in Africa (CMA) and the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), on 16 April 2025, jointly hosted a webinar titled “Peace Mediation in the Great Lakes Region: Voices from Below.” The webinar involved the academic, policy, and civil society communities. It aimed to capture the experiences, insights, and aspirations of conflict-affected local communities and actors in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The event was convened on the idea that while high-level peacebuilding and mediation processes are important, micro-level actors with deep knowledge of the grassroots or local context are also crucial to shift the situation towards lasting peace.
